Great skiing off the end oif Maloney Road yesterday and headed back today and anticipate it will be even better, tho be careful if you head down the big hill on the skidoo trailRight afte (Layton Smith’s camp) as not much snow on bridge at bottom.

Great skiing on skido trail from King St crosssing((~ 1 km past Purdy’s Hill) up to Blue Sign and left to Walker Rd-untracked snow up into quarry,then onto Yellow tracked by KAte and KAren and zoom zoom. Fro there up ATV trail to shelter then on to Woodhurst Rd almost with a lovely descent on the last section through the woods. Should be good conditions for at least another week tho with warmer temps later this week will get sloppy in the afternoons.

Skating on the marsh has arrived and even with the forcast rain should be good for a few weeks yet. Best temperature is -1 to +2 as it’s warming up-better purchase but still solid. Ski from the Red BArn, the rail trail on the Midgic marsh(lt or rt), or anywhere your heart desires. Zoom Zoom. And if you get dogs to assist you along take your brakes. Ross

Trail snow shoed and trackset to Coombs Road-now there is a nice, albeit narrow, pole track. CTT and presumably BHP also groomed by Brett. Snow mobile trails groomed but not packed enough for skating.

An incredible ski weekend. Trails broken around yellow and Blue north, Blue West up the Ridge and almost to the ATV trail on the other side. CTT and BHP both groomed again today. Sunshine,little wind,-5 degrees and a warm fire in the cabin. Certainly worth the price of admission!

Trail broken to Smith’s Cabin(Green) by the old men(C,R,& R)-great ski track but high and soft pole track. Bring big baskets. CTT packed by ski doo but not track set as of 1230 h. Incredibly beautiful and nice to have temperatures below 0 degrees.

Trails in reasonable shape. Broken around Blue North and Yellow to top of ridge and beyond as far as the quarry, and likely all the way to Woodhurst Rd. Tricky skiing at 0 to 1 degree with new snowfalling and cold snow on ground. Seems to stick to chemical and waxable skiis, and even sometimes waxless. A coat of silicone works well but doesn’t stick long. Any body discovered any magic. Where are you XLEBLANC?

CTT and presumably Beech Hill are trackset and in excellent shape. Blue North, Blue South and trail from |Petrie’s Folly to Drop Off Ridge are all broken, in good shape with the usual soft pole track. Enjoy

Still skiable in the big field at Beech Hill and along the Access Rd tho the latter is likely getting pretty packed down with vehicular traffic. Best time is below -2 degrees. Fast.

Tour of Elgin

This Saturday (2 October) marks the highlight in the mountain bike year, the 7th annual tour of Elgin. A truly magnificent event with great trails, beautiful fall colours, many hills and almost all off road

There are a choice of distances 20, 40 and 80km. The 80km is strictly for the hardcore, and starts at 10am, the other distances start at noon. Entry is $35 if you preregister before

5pm on Wednesday otherwise it’s $45 which you can pay on the day, see link for entry form
