Bunny Rabbit Learn-to-ski Program
Our program is one of eleven cross-country ski programs in New Brunswick and we are members of CCNB (Cross-Country New Brunswick). We have a dedicated roster of volunteer coaches each year and we follow the Nordiq Canada Ski Development program outline.
We offer a recreational ski program for youth and our emphasis is on learning and developing basic cross-country ski skills for life while having fun. We focus on development of classic ski techniques.
Registration
Registration for the program happens in November. Registration includes gear rental for each child for the season and weekly lessons. If your child has full cross-country ski gear already, families can choose to register for lessons only. Each year there are several bursaries available for families to register their child in the program. Each child participating in the Jackrabbit program must also be a member of the Tantramar Outdoor Club, either as part of a family membership or as an individual member.
Loppets
There are several ski loppets in NB each year; Interested families can find some additional information on the NB x-country ski page. A loppet is a gathering of skiers who ski at their own pace, giving skiers the chance to visit new trails and meet other people. The TOC program strongly encourages children to participate in one of these fun, non-competitive ski events. Parents/guardians will be responsible for transporting their children to the loppets.
Lessons
Ski lessons generally take place on Sunday afternoons beginning in early January and ending in March. Lessons begin and end at one of three locations: Beech Hill Park, the Crooked Tree Trail or the Quarry on Walker Road.
Our program is loosely divided into three categories:
Bunnyrabbits | 4-7 years old (first year on skis). If a child is pre-school aged, a parent is required to be in attendance during lessons |
Jackrabbits | 5-9 years old (2+ years on skis) **not offered for the 2025 season** |
Track Attack | 8-15 years old (4+ years on skis)**not offered for the 2025 season** |
