Sean Blaney will lead a trip to view wild flowers on Saturday, 4 June along the ski trails at Walker Road, Sackville. This will also be an opportunity to observe woodland birds. Meet at the reservoir gate on Walker Road at 8:00 AMSaturday morning. This is a half day trip but taking snacks and water is advised. As always, take field guides as desired and strong footwear.

Directions: Take the Walker Road exit from Route 2 (the Trans Canada Highway) approximately 3 km north west of Sackville. Coming from Sackville turn left at the end of the highway ramp. Coming from Moncton or other points north or west, turn right at the end of the ramp. Proceed several hundred meters to the reservoir gate on the left (just past the end of the pavement).
– Hope to see you there,

And just a reminder, in case you missed it, that there is an “al” in “naturalist” so don’t just show up wearing DEET.

Municipal Election Candidates April 29, 2016

Several TOC members have thrown their hats into the ring in the upcoming municipal election: Ashley Broderick, Brian Nielson Allison Butcher are all running for Sackville council.

Christina De Haas https://www.facebook.com/Vote-Christina-DeHaas-for-DEC is running for district education council rep.
Although the executive of the TOC feel we should remain at least somewhat neutral, we would like to wish the candidates well in this endeavour.

Cross Country New Brunswick AGM, May 14th 2016 – Invitation & Agenda

Date and Time:   Saturday May 14th, 2016 – 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM

Location:             The Goodie Shop
20 Fountainhead Lane, Miramichi, N.B.

Please register online @ zone4.ca
Tantramar Outdoor Club normally abstains from this meeting for no other reason than apathy and distance, but if anyone is interested in heading up and wants to represent the TOC let me know.

Note from Doug:  With increasing pressure for motorized access to all trails, CCNB might be a valuable counter-balance for maintaining some self-propelled areas.

2. Andre Bourque has resigned from his position as Executive Director of CCNB. If you are looking for a job, the info is on the CCNB website. Although it may not mention it on the job description, I would be pretty sure you could ski at any club in NB for free as part of your “duties”( just making sure your trails are safe/up to par…), so maybe some of you full time skiers out there may want to come out of retirement….

*Oxidation – when there is no glide wax on the ski base, the p-tex reacts with oxygen in the air to form a whitish layer. This oxidized layer will reduce the glide properties of the ski and also blocks the pores in the base so that additional glide wax will not penetrate the base
**Hot Scrape – a method for cleaning the glide zone of classic skis or the whole base on skate skis. Glide wax is applied, melted to an even layer and then scraped off while still in a liquid form or very soft. This process will clean the bases effectively.

Jackrabbit families get FOUR pair prepared for summer storage for the price of THREE.

The next  Tantramar Outdoor Club Pot luck will be Saturday March 19, 2016 at St Ann’s Anglican Church Hall, Westcock. Social time will start at 5:30 pm; our pot luck supper will be served at 6:15 pm.

While the children are enjoying their dessert, the annual meeting will be held.

All are welcome to stay to socialize, play cards/board games  or  have a musical interlude following the meal. We have the hall for the evening. So, feel free to plan to stay; please bring games, cards or  musical instruments.  Floor space for the children to play is limited so please bring tabletop activities for your children.

Apple juice, ice water and decaf tea will be available. Please bring other beverages you may prefer and your contribution to the pot luck.

Many of us recognize each other from passing on the trails. How about taking a selfie  or full picture of yourself in the outdoors, print it off, and put your first name on it, and pin it to yourself! Your outdoor club name tag!

Questions about the pot luck? Contact Susan K-R at: meals@nbnet.nb.ca; tel 536-3345.

Hope to see you on March 19th.
