More on Predictions

Well whoever wrote the ski report yesterday was spot on! Hire them. Bucky managed to set a lot of track which was fair to good quality. It was a zippy 3+/4 and a bit winding on some of the hills(when the snow is hard the picks on the tracksetter and groomer don’t dig in as well and you get a bit of fish tailing). So you would be wise for example not to descend Gastug, which Peter “The Mapmaker” Manchester has long advised against anyway. Grip was fine but grip wax had to be reapplied periodically. There are occaisional bare patches in the track but mostly just organic material which doesn’t produce the abrupt decelerations which rock and gravel generate. Feel free to de-ski and walk down hills, but *stay out of the ski track.* Although this may sound daunting, your trusty Barometer, E.Massarelli went out for a second ski in the afternoon on her short waxless and was quite pleased with things! There should be a fire on at SBL by late morning. If we get a cm or two of fresh snow tonight things will be slower and gentler by Sunday morning. And for you skaters, Doug’s* ICE REPORT*:

Doug Bliss (NNI) He also reports 8-10 cm along the edges of Silver Lake but there were open areas in the middle a few days ago so you may want to wait a bit to get on the Lake. Cheers,
