Trail Conditions

Sloppy Saturday

Things should be pretty saturated in the woods this morning but will be gradually freezing up as temps plummet. As long as we get a few cm of snow skiing should remain good. Yesterday was a stunning day on the trails which were almost empty. Bucky’s “Best Track of the Year” lived up to it’s hype with almost effortless skiing. I suspect my Glide scale has become an impediment to many of you – as soon as you see any number over 2 you go back to your gaming or whatever. So I think I should add a new parameter which may be more accurate and reassuring. Many of you are familiar with my oversight editor, known for her more cautious approach to skiing and other ventures, but since we already have some Elizabethan terminology in the descent category, this one will be labeled the Amygdala Index(After that almond sized part of the brain responsible for fear and safety and lots of other stuff). Certainly she and her skiing sorority are possessed with well functioning amydalae, and often complain that mine is microscopic. I vehemently deny this for after all it is not how big it(your amygdala) is but how you use it. The index will be a much simpler- they(the Amydalites) are skiing or they stayed home, perhaps colored by a description of what skis they are using. Unfortunately this will often be a late breaking story from the trail and will only be available via checking the website(Conditions), or retrospectively, which just creates a lot of FOMO. For example yesterday, with a disconcerting glide of 3.22/4, my dear amygdalite spent 5 hours in the woods in absolute bliss on short waxless skis! Sorry…. Anyway, we’ll give it a try. Bucky will likely groom Sunday morning Cheers,
