To Ski, To Skate or to Walk, That is the Question

Coverage on *ski trails* has improved since my last missive with only rare bare spots. I would still be cautious on Crooked Tree and Quarry Go Round down hills. People have skied pretty well everywhere so there is fair, a human made track. Last nights dusting should make grip pretty good and slow the glide down. Bucky is hoping to get out in the next day or so to pack things flat. This will help create a good base and allow the frost to get into the ground better. It will drive the current skiers a bit crazy, but these are the reasons.
Here is *Doug’s Ice report* from yesterday morning: SWP
– 100% ice cover even around the edges – minimum ice measurement 5 cm (about 2″), maximum 8cm (3″) – Skating: the ice has a heavy pebbling on top so skating is possible with effort (stopping will be tricky) – access to ice: at Milner Lane, off embankment of the middle boardwalk, and from the floating boardwalk near the SWP highway sign – (John Crawford would have been skating by now, but he may have had a smaller amygdala than average. My comment)
Storm Retention Pond
– expect similar conditions but exercise caution near water inlets and outlets
Silver Lake
– as of late yesterday still about 50% open water – Not skateable
*Walking* in Town is fine, and the snow shoe trails up the hill are getting packed. Once Bucky grooms, please do not walk on the Crooked Tree Trail- it transforms to a ski trail, This is also the time when this side closes to dogs and their walker(s).
