I forgot to mention that I put the usual cables up so if you venture out skiing, be wary. While I was out doing exactly that I noticed on my return that I was following a set of ski tracks with deer tracks beside it. Puzzled, and perhaps a little chagrined that I was not the only Fool in the Woods, I started paying careful attention to the stride length, the track width, the apparent abandon with which this skier had gleefully descended any wee hills, and it soon became apparent that these tracks were made by me earlier in the season, the “deer footprints” matching my pole tips confirming this. After testing the warmth of the track compared to the ambient temperature I concluded, somewhat sheepishly, that it was about an hour earlier in the season….I quickly shook off this self doubt, quickly reframed things- despite my advancing years and declining cerebral functioning, my tracking skills were still pretty adroit! Cy, who wisely declined joining me, would have said of conditions- they are not fast, but they’re slow. Have a good Fools Day tomorrow. And hopefully that is it.
